Tonight I made a new bracelet, which I think turned out very nice. I also worked on my art journal some and put another layer of gesso on the board I am getting ready to start. We also went to Home Depot and I picked up some sand paper and some Future so I can start making some clay beads again. Weee!

Shimmery Oil Pastel Art Journal Background Technique

Step 1. Assemble the items we will be using. Any brand of Oil Pastels will work, the ones I used were just cheapie Crayola ones and not the fancier type. You will also need Any color of

Step 2. Sprinkle some of the Pearl-EX on your art journal page, or whatever it is you want to use this technique on. I did not gesso my page first, but you could if you wanted to. ( I used Copper Pearl-Ex.)

Step 3. I used a paper towel for this part, but of course you can use whatever you have handy or even your fingers. I brushed the powder over the paper smoothly until I got it how I liked it, covering the whole page. (You could also use 2 or more different colors of the powder for a different look.)

Step 4. For this part hold the Oil Pastel stick in your non-dominant hand and with your dominant hand hold the brush. ( I have them both in the same hand for the photo but you couldn’t do it this way as you would not be able to brush across the Oil Stick.) Dip the brush into a very small dish of the Turpenoid and brush some onto the Oil stick to get it wet with the Turpenoid. Once the Oil Stick is all covered begin moving the brush over the stick and it should begin to splatter lightly onto the page. You can redip your brush as often as you want. The wetter the brush the bigger the splatters. You can do this for as long as you like and with whatever colors you want until you get the desired effect. For this I used Brick Red, Red, Brown, Gold, Pink and Dark Green.

This is the finished page, all ready for whatever else I want to add to it!
Here is an extreme close up of the page so you can see the shimmer.
Step 5. When you are finished with your art journal page or whatever it is you are using this on, I do recommend sealing it with some sort of sealant to keep the shimmer from rubbing off onto everything it might touch.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! I will be posting more soon. Also, keep an eye out for Art Journal Prompts as they will be coming very soon, starting tonight or tomorrow, depending on how my time works out. : )

Well today I had my dentist appointment, it wasn't too bad but they only took x-rays and referred me off to a dental surgeon to have my wisdom teeth yanked out. Meanwhile they put me on antibiotics and Tylenol3 with Codine for the pain from my broken tooth (which happens to be a wisdom tooth, I just didn't realize it was).
