Oodles of Creativity

Tonight I made a new bracelet, which I think turned out very nice.   I also worked on my art journal some and put another layer of gesso on the board I am getting ready to start.   We also went to Home Depot and I picked up some sand paper and some Future so I can start making some clay beads again. Weee!

Too many hobbies.. not enough time. LOL

Art Prompt - I Am

Today's art prompt is:

I Am

I will be working on this too and I would love to see your pages when you are finished so feel free to leave me a link! :)

I don't think I will do prompts every day but every couple days for sure just so that everyone will have time to work on the prompt before I post a new one.

Keep in mind that you don't have to just use it for art journaling, you can use it for any kind of creative endeavor!

Step 1.  Assemble the items we will be using.  Any brand of Oil Pastels will work, the ones I used were just cheapie Crayola ones and not the fancier type.  You will also need Any color of Pearl-Ex powder (you can get it online or your local craft store), Odorless Turpenoid and some kind of craft or paint brush.

Step 2.  Sprinkle some of the Pearl-EX on your art journal page, or whatever it is you want to use this technique on.  I did not gesso my page first, but you could if you wanted to.  ( I used Copper Pearl-Ex.)

Step 3.  I used a paper towel for this part, but of course you can use whatever you have handy or even your fingers.  I brushed the powder over the paper smoothly until I got it how I liked it, covering the whole page.  (You could also use 2 or more different colors of the powder for a different look.)

Step 4.  For this part hold the Oil Pastel stick in your non-dominant hand and with your dominant hand hold the brush.  ( I have them both in the same hand for the photo but you couldn’t do it this way as you would not be able to brush across the Oil Stick.) Dip the brush into a very small dish of the Turpenoid and brush some onto the Oil stick to get it wet with the Turpenoid.  Once the Oil Stick is all covered begin moving the brush over the stick and it should begin to splatter lightly onto the page.  You can redip your brush as often as you want.  The wetter the brush the bigger the splatters.  You can do this for as long as you like and with whatever colors you want until you get the desired effect.  For this I used Brick Red, Red, Brown, Gold, Pink and Dark Green.

This is the finished page, all ready for whatever else I want to add to it!

Here is an extreme close up of the page so you can see the shimmer.

Step 5.  When you are finished with your art journal page or whatever it is you are using this on, I do recommend sealing it with some sort of sealant to keep the shimmer from rubbing off onto everything it might touch.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!  I will be posting more soon.  Also, keep an eye out for Art Journal Prompts as they will be coming very soon, starting tonight or tomorrow, depending on how my time works out. : )

Always Learning

Today I made several backgrounds in my journal, I tried different techniques and just played and had fun.

I have some Oil Pastels that I colored in a background with and then went over it with oderless turpenoid, I love how it came out.

I did another background by getting it wet wet wet with regular rubbing alcohol and then dripping alcohol inks all over it and letting them drip and run.  I am not crazy about the colors but they are what I had, but I love the effect!

Other than that I worked on my fairy girl.  I started coloring her in with my colored pencils.  I am not sure what I will do with her yet, mostly just practicing for now but I am sure I will figure out something to do with her.

Tomorrow I am going to start a new board and do something Spring-ish to put in my bathroom, I think.  We got snow, snow, snow today and they are calling for more tomorrow and just when the trees were juuuust starting to turn green, but the good thing is they had not budded to much.  I am just ready for spring though and green growing things and the sweet smell of pine in the rain.

I hope to get some pictures of something posted tomorrow. :) Hope you all had a great day!

You are a beautiful, creative soul who shines with the light of a million stars.

Took the plunge and got an art journal. GO ME!  This is the first page, ok I know it's not fancy or anything but I like it.  Yes, I am obsessed with stars. :)  The first layer of the rainbowish colors was done in prismicolor pencils, then i used oderless turpenoid over them to blend them together and used that for my starting point.  I then wrote the sayins around it and started just playing with some tissue paper and a cardboard cut out star.  Lots of glitter and shimmery stuff, altho its hard to see unless you look full view.  Across the top is my favorite quote from the movie Stardust. (Love that movie!!).

Well like I said, it's far from perfect but I had fun :) Thanks for looking!

Busy Day

Well today I had my dentist appointment, it wasn't too bad but they only took x-rays and referred me off to a dental surgeon to have my wisdom teeth yanked out.  Meanwhile they put me on antibiotics and Tylenol3 with Codine for the pain from my broken tooth (which happens to be a wisdom tooth, I just didn't realize it was).

So, after that we had to run to Pueblo and I got to stop by Hobby Lobby, I picked up a hard bound sketch book to start an Art Journal in,  I started in it tonight and I think it will be a lot of fun to have a place to just go wild and also keep track of ideas.

I've started in it already and maybe tomorrow I will have something to post here from it. :)

Newness!

New blog, new projects, I have so much planned!  I think it's really going to be a great year this year.  We went to town today and everything is just starting to hint at turning green and there were so many baby cows in the fields.  They are all so cute!

I have a dentist appointment today, I am terrified of dentists and am freeeeking out lol.  It's already been a crazy year with a surgery, which I am still recovering from and now the dentist, (I have a broken molar and I'm sure he will want to yank all my wisdom teeth too very soon. Eek.).  Oh well, all I have left is the eye doctor and then I'm DONE. lol.  I am looking forward to getting home tomorrow and working on my current project. It's a set of Star shadow boxes that I am turning into a hanging mobile.

I am looking forward to really working on some things that I will be posting in my new Artfire shop, which is currently bone dry lol.  I have lots of ideas and have started a type of business/creative ideas journal that I have been writing in a lot.  Springtime is always such a flurry of fresh creative ideas for me.

Ok, I really need to get to sleep, or at least TRY because I have to be there EARLY (yuk!!) which is 11:30am. lol yes thats early for me, I usually get up around 3ish (p.m.) because my hubby works evenings.

Here is a little preview of one of my current projects. I am thinking of writing a tutorial for it when it's totally finished so I am taking step by step pictures. :)

Thanks for reading and I hope you all are having a great day/night!
